Despite the fact that I don’t celebrate Christmas and New
Years is usually spent at home watching the fireworks
display on the telly, I love the atmosphere during the last
few days of the year. More recently, I’ve been starting to
attend parties and events around this festive season,
which automatically gives me a reason to shop for glam
outfits. Admittedly though, it’s always quite difficult to
feel as dressed up as others when you’re a hijabi – with
sleeveless, leg-baring dresses the go-to piece for this
season and jeans just not cutting it.
I was kindly given a gift-card this week to shop till I drop at Debenhams so off I went to Leeds and did just that. I had planned to buy some high waisted wide leg trousers and a cute blouse but when I saw this dress from Coast, I fell in love instantly! The colours work well all-year round so I know I’ll definitely be getting my wear out of it.
It’s not very often a hijabi finds a dress that she can make work. When I tried it on, I was so thankful that I covered just as much leg as I’m comfortable showing. At 5’4″ it shows just as much as I show when I wear culottes. It has a lovely fit and isn’t as tight as most dresses which allows me to stay modest and still look my absolute best. It was also down to £59 from £129 – too good of a deal to pass up!
The dress has a high round neckline so it works well with a turban and also allows you to accessorise with earrings or a necklace if you want to spruce up the look a little more. I opted for minimal jewellery and let the dress do the talking.

Since the dress is sleeveless, I decided to go with a shawl, also
from Coast. I absolutely LOVE the fabric of this scarf, I’ve tried
it on as a headscarf as well and it drapes beautifully. It has a
pleating effect which adds a little something when worn as a
shawl and offers a lot of coverage when worn doubled over.
The shoes I opted for are from the Call It Spring collection. I
decided to go for this classic pair of heeled sandals as I know
they go with everything and can be worn on so many
occasions. They also come in black butI decided to go for the
greyish-mauve to add a different colour to my shoe-drobe. The
clutch I got to match the shoes are also from the Call It Spring
collection, it’s a great size to hold everything you need for a
dinner or event!

The Makeup Look
For a glam night out, I usually go for a look similar to this. A flawless base, spotlight smokey eyes and glossy lips. I used the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Natural Beige – my holy grail foundation that never lets me down! Along with a mix of eyeashadows which can be achieved using a palette such as the Naked Smoky Palette with a warm orange shade in the crease like spike from UD. For my lips I used the Kat Von D lipliner in Bow N Arrow and a NYX lipgloss in the shade Creme Brulee – also a favourite of mine! Shop products below to achieve a similar look.

I visited Debenhams a few days ago while I was staying in Huddersfield and I wanted to be as quick as possible so that I could spend time with my family while I was there. I loved the fact that while I was in store, I was able to find everything under one roof – from shoes to makeup to my outfit and all reasonably quickly! Both high-end and more affordable pieces are available at the store so you can rest assured you won’t break the bank ;).
I also love buying my makeup from Debenhams and have done for a very long time, every since I worked there myself on the Urban Decay counter. Debenhams has lots of cruelty-free brand as well including UD, Kat Von D, Too Faced, NYX and more (which I love them for)! And of course, they house a multitude of perfumes too, including one of my favourites, Alien by Thierry Mugler.
